For those unfamiliar with California legislative districts, it should be noted that a California state senate district is populated by more voters than a U. S. congressional district. Most California state assembly districts are nearly as large as a congressional district.
Furthermore the City of San Jose is the ninth most populous city in America, and is one of the largest cities in the nation geographically. All five of the mayor’s campaigns Roger managed in San Jose were extremely competitive. In one of those campaigns almost every local political pundit speculated that Roger and his candidate would lose badly, but in fact, Roger’s candidate won by a razor thin margin of fewer than 1100 votes.
